I make it a habit to review each and every IU day every year based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (eventho I have no idea where those posts went), I don't really care about what you think about my review honestly - which means the only ones I've been to for the past years - Hartamas' /failmoment.
Fact is, I've managed to perform at even TTDI's IU day this year, but that alone is history I'd never wanna relive. Let's just say it did not go too well (happens sometimes in your performing side of life, just gotta accept it).
Well anyway, July's highlight was probably Sport Carnival being smacked up in between 2 IU days of only a week apart. Sleep deprived, who cares, that's part of finishing up your senior year all beaten up in accomplishment.
*Foreword: Each IU day mentioned here has it's own unique touch, hence shouldn't be compared with one another - only as a review. The baseline? Past IU day's I've been to.
So let's get things started, please don't kill me:
SMKTTDI's IU Day
Food (7/10) (9/10 for the Curry Puff):
It really is an obvious bet to why food is listed first. In term's of food, I loved to curry puff so much that I actually brought home some for my dinner AND supper. The rest were not bad, only that the nuggets got cold but was topped off well but the noodle. I'm no food critic, like I said based on personal experience. Ps: I want more curry puffs.
Location ( -/10):
There's no fair judgement for this. School compound was the only location that was predetermined for that particular IU day to be held at.
Sound System (7/10):
Albeit the over powered bass coming from the drums, the rest were good, compared to what was experienced a couple of years back at some event. Sidenote tho, acoustic guitars should be plugged-in to the pre-amp, instead of an electric guitar amp which in the end sounded really electric.
Performance (8/10):
Audience interactive and even hosted by 2 very energetic people, perfect combination to keep the audience from falling asleep and still one with the event. Good job!
Obvious Stress-level - the lower the better (2/10):
I have no idea how the interactors from TTDI manage to put up such a great event without even showing how stressed they are planning and managing the whole thing. From standing at the side watching on the performances to even starting the train (I call it the train).
Punctuality and work arounds (7/10):
Started a bit off time, but managed to wrap it all up in time (+/- 10 minutes earlier with an open dance floor).
Verdict: I had a great time! (8/10 overall)
SMKSH's IU Day:
Food (7/10) (8/10 for the Curry Puff):
The rice was dry and cold, but saved by the egg and chicken thingy majigy. And I have no idea why I love curry puffs so much.
Location - getting there (7/10):
For some people who have never been to this side of town (or less frequently), it may be a bit of a hassle to find, especially since it's on the other side of the highway.
Location - there itself (9/10):
The hall was anything but run down. The toilets were anything but filthy. The stage was anything but small. It wasn't hot - unless you danced or performed with the spotlights shining on you. The seatings were relatively close to the stage and everything was visible unless you had a giraffe sitting in front of you or people were standing in front (or maybe I'm just short). The auditorim itself looks like a total different place in the college.
Sound System (8/10 for overall) (6/10 for the purpose of sound checking):
I'm pretty much really specific about this. As to sound is concerned, it was better than previous and any other IU days I've attended, but the purpose of sound checking just defeats the overall. The settings were meant to stay that way after sound checking and should be attended to by the technicians should changes are made, the mic was really soft during performance and the personal stage amplification wasn't turned on to it's audible settings. My guitar ended up sounding slightly distorted which messed up the tuning a bit, had no time to change anything.
Performance (8/10):
Kudos for bringing Jin from hitz.fm to host the event. As to guest performers and performers alike, they nailed it, except that people slowly started to leave after intermission.
Obvious Stress-level - the lower the better (4/10):
Can't blame anyone, hosting such big event does need ample overlooks, but sometimes chilling helps too. =)
Punctuality and work arounds (8/10):
Most performing acts were on time, and the work around of the schedule were properly done, except that performers should be there on time and not wait for slot changes.
Verdict: Probably the talk of the coming week(s), we'll see (8/10 overall, but better than previous year's)
